State rafting team to participate at Kashmir International Cup
ITANAGAR, June 23: The state rafting team will be participating at the 3rd Kashmir International Cup to be held at Jammu and Kashmir from July 7 to 15 next.
In this regard, a River Rafting training camp will be organised at Pasighat for the selection of the state rafting team from June 24 next. The camp is being organised by Arunachal Pradesh Water Sports Association (APWSA) and after the team selection process and team will be flagged off by DC, Pasighat East Siang and officials of Sports and Youth Affairs, informed APWSA general secretary, Ojing Tasing and state rafting team head coach Nino Dai.

ITANAGAR, Jun 23: Capital Complex police today arrested Giogi Natung, Hiba Poul and Gichik Taba, all from Kurung Kumey district and accused in the 29th October, 2011 Axis Bank ATM robbery case. Arunachal NCP comes out in support of Sangma
ITANAGAR, Jun 23: The Arunachal unit of NCP appealed the MPs and MLAs of Arunachal Pradesh to extend support to Purno Agitok Sangma’s candidature for the post of President of India.
The resignation of former Lok Sabha Speaker and presidential candidate hopeful Sangma from the primary membership of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will not have any impact on the party in Arunachal Pradesh, said the party’s state unit.
“He had to quit the NCP because the UPA including the NCP are not supporting his candidature as a tribal candidate and who represents the Tribal” said NCP State General Secretary Daniel Teli.
Opposition to bandh
ITANAGAR, Jun 23: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal (APCSD) has opposed the 24 hrs Capital bandh call proposed by Arunachal Pradesh Border Students Organization.
APCSD termed the bandh politically motivated while alleging that it is driven by personal interests for bargaining on govt work order and FDR schemes.
The Seval Dal further said that clarification have already been given on the issues raised by the bandh callers. And, if the organization has any more grievances, they should discuss it with the state government instead of harassing the common people, it said.
Seva Dal appealed the State govt to come up with a law through the State Legislative Assembly to stop bandh calls while calling on the administration and police to arrest those leading the bandh.

ITANAGAR, Jun 23: Call it spellbinding effects of social networking site or people up against garbage in Capital Complex, altogether 200 volunteers on Saturday morning beat rain and actively participated in a cleanliness drive in and around Siddhartha Vihar Gompa, here, with a theme “think green, live clean”.
A clean Itanagar campaign was generated through social networking site Facebook engineered by social activist Jarjum Ete and Tadar Khampu Likha, a doctor, Chukku Mama, a college teacher and Pritam Taffo, a lawyer and Nguli Dabi, a student and many others.
The drive was launched under the banner of ‘Help Clean Up the Siddhartha Vihar Gompa, Itanagar.
Cutting across age group, the volunteers including youths, and young men and women and even children participated in the cleanliness drive which lasted for more than two hours. Under the drive, the volunteers cleaned up the surroundings of Gompa, burdened with heaps of garbage, broken pieces of bottles, plastic bags etc.
Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Pasang Dorjee Sona, who also actively took part in the cleanliness drive, said, "I am confident that, by this kind of noble initiatives, we can certainly bring about a visible and positive change not only in our capital city, Itanagar but also in entire state". He called upon everyone to be responsible to keep their localities and surroundings neat and clean.
Jarjum Ete also urged the people of the state, particularly youngsters to come up with such noble ideas for cleaner and greener Arunachal Pradesh.
Forum demands BIPL Company to resume construction works at NH 52
ITANAGAR, Jun 23: The deserted stretch of road, which is under construction, from Sille to Tajum, 5 Miles RCC Bridge along NH52 in East Siang district is in worst condition.
This stretch of road is being executed by Bharatiya Infra Pvt.Ltd.(BIPL) company. But due to shortage of sufficient machinery for construction works, the company is delaying the works.
Meanwhile, the 37 Intellectual Forum expressed their displeasure over the condition of the road. The Forum said that due to delay in construction work and dilapidated road condition, patients, public transport providers and public are facing lots of problems. The Forum appealed to the executing agency to immediately resume the work and complete it within the stipulated time period.
The Forum demanded the state government and GREF to replace BIPL or initiate step for resuming the work within a week.
It also appealed to the MP and all MLAs of East Siang to look into the matter and take up necessary step with the authority concerned for timely execution of the work.
Earlier, the Forum led by its president Ruson Taggu met General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) officials at its headquarter at Pasighat and also contacted BIPL project manager in this regard.
It is worth mentioning here that the tender work was awarded to BIPL Company and the work should have started from April 2012 as per the tender guidelines.
State level workshop for handicraft artisans
NAHARLAGUN, Jun 23: Handicraft artisans from every district of Arunachal Pradesh are participating in a two days workshop being organized by the Nani Sala Foundation under HRD scheme of development commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of textiles, Govt. of India.
Most of the participants of the programme are from villages and are associated with handicrafts.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of the Nani Sala Foundation, Nani Kojin informed that their organization provides training to the people of the villages from time to time.
“Under our guidance many innovative designs of handicrafts has been designed by the handicrafts artisans from the locally available materials,” said Kojin.
Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board chairman Jalley Sonam said, “Whenever and wherever a workshop or seminar is organized, then we must participate and try to learn something.”
He further added that “Arunachal is a backward state because we don’t like to take advice from others, as we think that we know everything. First we have to change our attitude and try to learn as many things as possible so that we will be able to help others.”
Many NGOs are mushrooming in Arunachal but only a few have succeeded in achieving their goals. NGO must share the problems of the people and try to solve them, said Sonam. “In Arunachal people don’t care about money and invest here and there unnecessarily. Invest your money on NGO’s, so that it will benefit you and also others will be benefited at same time,” he said.
Handicrafts Training Officer, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, PC Boiragi informed the gathering that many schemes has been launched by the government of India for the development of handicraft artisans, which can utilized by them to get benefited.
“Artisans can establish their emporiums with these schemes launched by ministry of textiles,” said Boiragi.
Boiragi further added that handicraft artisans can showcase their work by participating in exhibitions which are organized in different parts of the country. He also informed that the ministry of textile provides all sorts of help to the participants to establish the stalls which also include TA/DA.
Boiragi made a proposal that a craft bazaar be organized with 50 artisans in Itanagar.
Speaking as resource person, editor of Arunachal Front, Pradeep Kumar delivered a lecture on the role of media in development of handicraft artisans.

Itanagar, Jun 23: The Government has shouldered different departments to ensure that no citizen suffer from lack of basic amenities. But unfortunately, the same is not happening here due to which the residents of Naharlagun are suffering.
It has been a week since the breakdown of water pipelines in Yupia. It was supposed to be repaired in two days as assured by the PHED officials. Now the department officials seem to be distancing themselves from the problem. The entire town has been reeling under acute drinking water crisis.
Earlier, some measures and actions were taken by the department concerned whenever any kind of water crisis were reported in the twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlagun. The department used to supply water through tankers in every sector and colony. But this time the authority has turned a complete blind eye towards the problem which has aggravated the situation.
The government should initiate prompt action to solve all such problems that cause hardship to its citizens.
DA visits landslide prone areas
ITANAGAR, Jun 23: Following the death of a father and son, who were buried alive at Daporoji recently, the district officers led by Deputy Commissioner Tahang Taggu and Bagang Abu Youth Welfare Society visited the spot. They cautioned the residents of Abotani Colony, which is prone landslide, to be careful and spoke to them about preventive measure to avoid calamity. Deputy Commissioner Taggu and ADC G.Ete asked the dwellers to avoid illegal earth cutting to avoid landslide. They further suggested them to pursue for proper land allotment in the suitable place. Taggu appealed the people not to construct house in dangerous areas.
Meanwhile DD.UD H Welley warned the people to refrain from random earth cutting which may lead to more landslides.
Secure future of Arunachalee sportspersons: AASYA
ITANAGAR, Jun 23: All Arunachal Sport Youth Association (AASYA) has appealed to the state government to ensure future employment of meritorious Arunachalee sportspersons so that they do not end up their life in extreme poverty.
Apprehending uncertain future of those meritorious sportspersons, who have chosen sports as their career, AASYA in a memorandum to Chief Minister urged him to ensure recruitment of all meritorious sportspersons by all Govt. departments as per quota. It claimed that majority of the govt departments, barring police, are not complying with govt reservation policy for meritorious sportspersons.
“Some of the departments do not even respect the recommendation of Arunachal Olympic Association, it alleged.”
It also came to our notice that when some departments give notice for recruitment of 2 to 3 posts in different categories, it is difficult to make out how the 5% reservation for meritorious sportsperson is implemented,” it questioned.
AASYA urged the CM to frame a certain policy for sportspersons, like relaxation in physical and education qualification while applying for job in various govt departments.
“Since sportspersons have to take part in various events throughout the year, they hardly get any time to study. This is one of the main reasons why a sportsperson can not compete with other regular students,” AASYA said and appealed to offer education relaxation to sportspersons for various govt jobs within the state.
Until and unless an employment guarantee policy to ensure a secure future for the state's outstanding sportspersons is adopted, sports in Arunachal Pradesh would never see the light of development as many have already given up sports as career, the memorandum said.
AASSYA also blamed lack of proper sports infrastructure as main hindrance in development of sports in the state.
“Apart from the SAI Centre at Naharlagun, the lone sports academy in the state Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy too is found lacking in facilities. The sportsperson have practically no other options than to train outside the state, the memorandum said and urged the CM to give proper attention towards development of sports infrastructure.
The copies of memorandum were also submitted to Home Minister and Parliamentary Secretary for Sports & Youth Affairs.
Drug resistant TB treatment services on the roll
ITANAGAR, Jun 23: A Central Appraisal team consisting of seven Central TB Division representatives visited 12 districts of Arunachal Pradesh for assessing the preparedness of the districts for rolling out treatment services for Drug Resistant TB from June 18 to 22. This service has already been rolled out in Papum Pare and Lower Subansiri districts.
After appraisal of the districts, all the teams converged at Naharlagun for debriefing the State health authorities on the findings and the corrective measures required thereof on June 23.
The general recommendations common to all were recruitment of DOTS Plus TB-
Commissioner, Health & FW Tape Bagra emphasized on the need for the doctors to remain true to their profession and serve the needy and the sick with utmost dedication. He suggested that local arrangements can be made at all levels for benefit of the patients. NRHM has provided a lot of facilities at the peripheral level, hence, all the programmes, instead of running in a parallel manner needs to be integrated.
He requested all the District TB Officers and doctors in general to keep on updating their knowledge so as to keep the programme fitter and serve the people better. He said that doctors should never forget their subject matter. He thanked the CTD representatives for the proper and thorough appraisal and for going to all the difficult places with pathetic road conditions.
The Mission Director, NRHM Nani Mali assured the central team that the concerned authority in the district would be directed to take care of the local matters and extend all possible help from his end for taking actions on the recommendations made by the representatives. He urged the Commissioner and the DHS also to extend all possible help for rolling out of the treatment services for drug resistant TB so that the poor and sick patients benefit the most. He said that if there is proper coordination in the districts a lot of problems can be solved at the district level itself.
The Director of Health Services, Dr. K. Nishing assured to look into the recommendations made by them.
